i-PRF, body contouring and more ...
As the year draws to a close, we look ahead to how treatments and skincare could influence the market in 2022. A more conscientious approach to active ingredients in skincare is shaping the market and body contouring continues to trend in 2022.
New Class of Injectable
Injectable Platelet Rich Fibrin, also known as iPRF has been around for a few years. Cosmo Pro launched iPRF in 2017 and have pioneered this advanced autologous treatment in the UK. Yelp reported the search for iPRF injections are up 44%. It's similar to PRP in which the clients blood is drawn and the formed elements are separated via centrifugation, which concentrates the activated platelets combined with fibrin and leukocytes. Once re-injected the growth factors become trapped within the fibrin mesh resulting in a cell rich network to stimulate collagen, elastin and hair growth.
Acids Reign
Acids accounted for 40% of the most searched skincare ingredients in the UK in 2021. Mandelic acid is considered one of the latest rising stars, which improves elasticity and firmness.
Salicylic acid is also a top trending ingredient in the UK according to a report by WeThrift. Acids gently exfoliate the dead skin cells and trigger cellular renewal, to combat and slow the signs of ageing.
Scientific Haircare
The skin-ification of haircare is officially mainstream. That's to say there's much more overlap between haircare and skincare, especially with the newfound focus on the scalp (which is also skin, after all). With all the scalp concerns that have come up during the pandemic, particularly hair loss, treatments like iPRF (that has scientific data that improves hair loss) are also rising, as well as an inside-out approach to haircare (making use of hair products to help with hair health), and scalp-tox (Botox on the scalp) for sweaty scalps.
Body Shaping
Body contouring is rising with searches up 35%, according to Yelp's 2022 Beauty Trend Forecast Report.
While losing weight benefits our overall health, body contouring may be achieved by means of surgical and/or non-surgical procedures, in many cases optimum results are achieved by combining both.
Non-invasive, non-surgical procedures may be used to tone and tighten muscles and improve definition in different areas of the body. Some body contouring treatments also tighten the skin, reduce fatty deposits and/or cellulite, and help to build and define muscles faster than diet and exercise.
Growing Grooming Industry
According to Cosmetics Business, male-marketed beauty and grooming is on the rise, and is a sector expected to generate global sales of $81 billion by 2024. As the norms around masculinity continue to evolve, there is more emphasis on self-care for men, along with product choices that can help them achieve that such as the COSMED Men's range.
