Peripheral IV Cannulation Training
Cannulation training is facilitated by experienced and qualified phlebotomists with first hand clinical experience, this course allows students to demonstrate theoretical and practical cannulation competencies within a classroom environment.
This advanced training course is intended to cover all aspects of safe principles of peripheral cannulation. Students will have the opportunity to practice cannulation skills on a model arm.
Why Train in Cannulation?
Cannulation is an invasive procedure, if undertaken incorrectly can result in complications. Peripheral IV cannulation (PIVC) is the most prevalent procedure in healthcare with circa 30 million cannulas used in the UK every year (ref NHSSC). The awareness and education surrounding IV access devices is critical to changing the attitudes and outcomes in peripheral IV administration due to the failure rate for PIVC is between 33%-69%. This course will teach practitioners to carry out the work correctly and within an aseptic field.
Who Can Attend?
Practitioners must be trained and experienced in phlebotomy to attend this advanced course in IV cannulation. This course is aimed at aesthetic practitioners wanting to learn the skills to perform cannulation for treatments such as IV nutrition. It teaches you all you need to be able to perform cannulation and will set you on the right track to be safe and competent.

PART 2 - CANNULATION PRACTICAL SESSIONS - classroom
When booking this course, you will need to provide proof of phlebotomy certification.
PART 1: Complete the online theory covering Advanced Phlebotomy & Cannulation in your own time. The course can be completed in stages but must be completed PRIOR to attending the practical day. Once completed you will immediately be able to download your pass certificate.
This course is designed to supplement our Phlebotomy Course and is a progression route for both trainee and experienced phlebotomists wishing to expand on their existing phlebotomy experience.
